Mise-en-scene: Eminem- Not afraid
In this music video the props being can be denoted quite old and broken things such as the broken chair and also when he is standing on the rooftop you can clearly see that the surface he is standing on isn't newly polished or built as you can see feet marks and on the edges the paint has worn off. This can connote the theme of the song which is rising up to those who put you down. As this is the beginning of the song you can see how everything is bleak. This is due to the lighting. When he is in the run down house there is only artificial lighting which makes the scene look very dull and just a depressing place to be in. Even when he is seen on the open roads the lighting isn't any different, it is still quite depressing until the end when everything brightens up as though he has risen. Especially when he is literally rising up from the ground when he is flying. Eminem himself is mostly has the back of his head at the camera during the beginning but towards the end there is more of his face. There are closeups of his face when he is flying. this can connote that at the beginning his face isn't worth seeing as he is not brave enough but at the end he can face it head on.
Editing: Jason Derulo -What if
Jason Derulo had sang this song and the music video had impacted me because i feel that, as well as me, a lot of people can relate to the meaning behind it. There are times that we all think "what if" and wish we had the ability to turn back time. I think if a music video can be relatable then it is successful.
Throughout the music video the cutting is quite consistent in pace as it cuts on the beat however right at the beginning there was a long take and this emphasizes the emotion as it allows the audience to process the whole scene as one and take time to notice every detail. This works as the song is quite an emotional one. When the girlfriend is hit by the car there is a series of faster cuts adding tension tot the video but after this everything was quite consistent. Also the majority of the video is played backwards showing that they are going back in time which is relatable to the audience as said before. The fact in some scenes Jason Derulo is seen singing and moving forwards however in the background everyone is moving backwards shows the significance that he feels he is the only one making this an even more depressing video fulfilling the emotion it is supposed to convey to the audience.
Camera: Justin Timberlake- Mirrors
This song belongs to the album the '20/20 experience' and is sung by Justin Timberlake. The narrative of the music video has a very strong meaning behind it and it was very cleverly filmed. I enjoy this video because there are bits that i didn't quite understand making me watch it again so i could understand it.
I think in this video the camera language was done ingeniously. The song is called 'Mirrors' and more often than not you are viewing a person through a mirror. There is also a lot of panning, tracking and dolly movements. This was more frequent when looking at their younger selves in the fun house. This can connote the emotion of a lot of movement so they are having a lot of fun and it makes the audience be more interested, bringing the audience into the fun as well as the actors. Also when these movements are made they are quite slow which can connote the sad emotions of the song. Throughout there is a lot of low angle shots showing the importance and dominance of these people. This song has been dedicated to certain people therefore the low angle shots are very frequent as these people must of had a significant impact on the artist. The camera language can also show the narrative quite clearly via the mirrors, it shows that one person has passed away and the partner can still see them when looking in a mirror. This is shown by the frequent shots of the older couple through the mirrors.
Performance: Bruno mars- Lazy song
This song is quite a casual song and is in the album 'Doo-Wops & Hooligans' This is another music video that impacts me as it is very relatable but also it makes me have relaxed emotions as its not the typical music video about love or anything depressing. Also it actually allows me to sit on a sofa and just be lazy.
I think the performance in this is brilliant as it matches the song perfectly as it should. There are guys in monkey costumes which fit the theme as there's an expression which goes 'Lazy monkeys' and the song is called the Lazy song. All the dancing and actions they do are done so calmly. Also this is all done in one location and the dance moves are not complex connoting that literally anyone can replicate this video if they wanted. This performance can relate to the audience as all the dance moves can be done by anyone and it allows them to just watch something so calm to make themselves calm.
Camera,editing,mise-en-scene,performance: Hangover- PSY
This song is a typical PSY song as it has random things going on in it and overall it is a funny video that makes me just question how bored they really are and how they are making so much money. Also it impacts me by expanding my knowledge on what you can really achieve in videos.
The camera language is quite consistent in shot types. Its normally mid shots and long shots showing the environment as well as them. This works well as all the back drops are quite extravagant and they even make a normal cafe look abnormal with all the bight eye catching colours, and all of this is seen via the shots that are used.
The editing pace is quite fast as well because quite a lot is happening in the video with all the gestures and the cuts to a new location or the special effects running through. As this song is about a hangover maybe all the effects are what you see when drunk.
The mise-en-scene varies quite a bit as there are different locations and women popping up. The women are shown wearing revealing outfits therefore portraying women as sexual objects. Also it is just a random video with a lot of things thrown into it which makes this video quite pointless but humorous and a good pass time.
